Fitness Equipment FAQs

I am interested in purchasing items for a home gym, what do you recommend I purchase for the best workout?

Having a properly balanced workout regimen is key for producing results. A home gym should include equipment such as a treadmill that promotes cardiovascular strength, as well as a set of free weights or other equipment designed to help build muscle. In my opinion, it is also essential to have space to complete a yoga or Pilates session because that helps elongate and tone the muscles as well as offer a good stretch.

Yoga looks easy and doesn’t require any heavy lifting; how can it provide a good workout?

While yoga doesn’t require any sort of heavy lifting, it requires strength of the body and mind to be able to sustain and hold certain poses. I have yet to meet an individual who, after completing a session of yoga thinks that it was easy. Yoga doesn’t produce muscle bulk, but rather tones and elongates muscles and offers a way for the body to excrete stress and other harmful particles from the body. It is completely different than weight training, but is definitely not easy and does offer a great total body workout.

I work out on a regular basis and am not receiving any results, what do I do?

While physical exercise is essential, a healthy and well balanced diet may be more important. I have often heard that to produce results, exercise makes up 20% and the other 80% comes from proper dieting. There are 3,500 calories per pound, so by eating an extra 100 calories a day, which is equivalent to an 8 ounce Coke, you will gain about a pound in a month. It is important to note that every body requires a different caloric amount. Research the Internet or talk to someone about the amount of calories you need to either gain or maintain your weight and from there continue working out and remember that drinking that extra coke can often make all the difference.
